Koh Tao is small, rocky island. There’s only one way you can come here- by the sea. The best choice is to use Lomprayah ship. This company has the best ships. Ticket from nearby Chumphon costs 600 baths ($20). You will be there in 1,5-2 hours.
I went to Koh Tao directly from Bangkok. I bought joint ticket on night bus and ship. I paid for it US$50.
Koh Tao is very close to Koh Samui and Koh Phangan islands.
Koh Tao – perfect spot for divers
The Island is nice but only for people who like diving. If you don’t like this sport, better choose nearby Koh Phangan Island. Prices are lower and you have much more tourist attraction.
As almost everywhere in Thailand, the best is to rent a motorbike for sightseeing. It costs around 200-300 baths ($5-$6) per day. We rent an ATV because I think it’s much safer (costs 1600 baths- $50)
You’d better take a picture of a motorbike though. Sometimes sellers want to cheat you and ask you to pay for the damages you didn’t do.
After driving all over the Island, I think that the best place in Koh Tao is Sairee Beach. You can find many shops and people there. The streets are full of live.
It is good to take bungalow on the beach instead of hotel. The view of sunrises and sunsets are really unforgettable.
For those who like snorkeling, I recommend Tanote Beach. You can spend the whole day watching sea life because the water here is super-clear. You can see there fish larger than 1,5 ft, even 33ft from the shore. It is just awesome. The beach also wasn’t crowded when I was there. It was the best place on Koh Tao island for me.
